Under The Sea - Birthday Party Theme

There are beauties under the sea and some not so beauties. Either way under the sea is intriguing to us and to a child, it's a world of imagination. Why not bring "Under the Sea" to the surface for your little one's next party!

I am a massive fan of all things different and a lover of colours that pop! Whether it be pastels, bright colours, using one colour or many, these below images will send your creative juices mad with envy!

The simple use of a couple of shades of blue tones with white, give the feel of being under water in the hot tropics. The pearls and soft ribbons soften the look and give a look of elegance.
A simple table that has a few stand out items such as this gorgeous cake and pretty lolly jars and for me the pearly sequinned material over the blue material on the table gives definite wow factor!

How cute are the little cake pops. Made into little octopus. You could simply leave out the flower to make it for boys. Great idea of raw sugar to look like sand.

What a great idea! Simple use of a lantern, turned into a jelly fish. If you can somehow get a light safely into the centre of these, how good would a bunch of these look all lit up.

This cake is beautiful and achievable to make yourself. Have fun decorating the shells with pearly glitter or however you wish to decorate it. Cake decorating shops or places like Spotlight should have moulds for shells, colouring and other fancy bits and bobs.

This is a cute example of a party invitation. There are thousands of ideas you can use and invitations that you may find out there that you would like to use. From mermaid invites, a funky starfish or whales, the list is endless!

Cute little decorations for the tables. These napkin holders give that personal touch and that little extra to the tables. These are super easy to make yourself too!

Wow this party is crazy with detail but I love it! The use of coloured glass pebbles, the sea horse sculptures, which can be achieved yourself with polystyrene and some paint. Pieces of coral and the bright red imitation pieces give that all round realistic look.
What stands out to me is the clear glass balls. They look like bubbles and the flowers. The tone of colours in Hydrangeas look like the tone of colours in the water when place in amongst these decorations. They kind of look like coral as well. Very clever use of such a pretty coloured flower.
More stand outs are those fabulous little star fish biscuits. Those eyes are cute. The cake pops are beautifully decorated too.

and then there is the cake. This is amazing! There is loads of colour here and detail. I think they have done the green seaweed out of toffee. I could be wrong though and the fuchsia coral looks like it could be some material. However they have done this, it looks amazingly good.

Another great design and one with a bit of a modern twist. I say modern because strips and chevron design is all the go at the moment.
Great use of colours here and the glittery pieces of leaves or trees to represent coral, look fantastic!
I particularly love the sheer glittery material that looks like seaweed. Easy to make these. Cut into strips and roughly cut edges or use a candle flame to curl the edges slightly (be sure to be careful doing this). Love the strands of beads in amongst this as well.

Now this is a cake we can all achieve and it looks amazing too! Cover with a slightly coloured frosting, some shell chocolate moulds, coloured sprinkles or even some beautiful pearl balls and then a cute little cake topper that I'm sure you could make your own similar to this.

I can't wait to make these and it doesn't have to be for a themed party. Cute mini cupcakes, chocolate shells and a little chocolate white ball. Sprinkled with some sugar cinnamon to look like sand and wholah!

Such a cute invitation and love the colours used here too. A group of different shades of lanterns bunched together looks so effective. If you made these to look like jellyfish, it would be amazing! This cake is simple enough to make yourself and yet it looks so great, especially with the use of colours here.
These party favours are awesome!

This is gorgeous!  I love the less is more approach even though there has been a bit of work put into this party. Colours play a big factor on the less is more approach and the right combination or blend will make your party stand out. This little mermaid is such a cute touch amongst the mini cupcakes.
The cupcake toppers are easy enough to make yourself.

I am all for cupcakes and especially if you feel like you haven't a creative bone in your body to create a masterpiece cake. A nice cake stand and cute little additions such as the cake toppers, mermaid and bunting flag that I have shown in a previous blog, how to make and look at the results that can be achieved with little effort.

Rather than a Happy Birthday Banner, why not give your party a name. In this case it's Emma's Lagoon. This table has minimal decorations but looks amazing.

This table setting can be used for an adults party or children's party. My only concern would be making glassware and plates non-breakable but I think the pictured are plastic.  The cocktail looking glassware could be for a candy bar or dessert bar, either way you can utilise these somehow and the colour of them is perfect on this table.
A great, easy decoration and that children would love is a goldfish. Just keep in mind, he or she will now be your pet!

These little jelly cups are so eye catching. Some blue jelly, whipped cream or I guess you could even make some meringues with these little lolly fish on top.

Another cute table decoration idea. Fill some cylinder vases with coloured water and place some goggles around them. This would also be great for an outdoor under the sea party theme, one where you could combine a pool party too. Love the umbrellas in the oranges.
Fabulous ideas used here by Simply Creative Insanity and her daughters 6th birthday party. I urge you to see the rest of her pictures.

Such a bright and colourful cake. I think you can take a look at some cakes and get quite overwhelmed by how amazing they look. One thing I tell myself is to break it down! Break the image down bit by bit. Look at the basics first. Using this picture as an example, it's one simple cake and two layers of cupcakes. That I can do. Also it's a stand which is easy as the layers are not on top of each other. I then work out the types of icing or fondant used on the cake and lastly, I look at the 'fine print', or the decorations on the cakes. In this case the cupcakes have toppers. I think we can all stick a stick into a cake right! The mermaid on top, well she is a little detailed. She is made out of fondant and can be made in advance. If I knew I had to do something similar to this mermaid, I'd probably buy some fondant in advance and practice!

Love it when you can make food to fit in with the theme of a party. In this below picture, these Seashells or Clams are simply gingerbread biscuits with frosting centres and a chocolate ball. I personally think these are a quick and easy idea and yet will be a focal point on the table.

I had to put these next few images up because these ideas are fantastic. I recommend clicking on the below link which will forward  you on to more images of this party. There are so many good talking points with these decorations.
The jelly fish birthday banner - something different, I love a great backdrop - this blue water-like material with bright colourful tropical fish stuck on. The best part is the fairy lights behind the blue sheet. These make it look like a light or the moon shining on the water.
The table decoration is simple but that's great as it's not taking away from that amazing backdrop and with an amazing cake like this one, you don't need much.

What a great party favour for your guests. You will have some very happy little boys and girls talking about these for a long time!

Glass fish bowls filled with blue jelly and sea critter gummi lollies
One tip here — make the jelly out of half blue and half clear so that it isn’t too dark.

A cute little idea here for party favours. A little box of goodies tied off with ribbon and a star fish. Party favours if you have them at a party, are really amazing these days. A lot of creativeness goes into them as well as the contents within.

Again, a fish in a bowl is a great decoration idea and even better when you tell your child, you can keep the fish!

I love this table decoration and in particular two items that stand out for me besides the amazing cake are the name banner. The fish in the fish bowls displaying the child's name. Adds a bit of fun to it!
The fisherman's net over the table covering is really effective here.

Great cake and colours!

This gorgeous white washed buffet table is the perfect piece of furniture to have as a cake table. The brightly coloured material is enough colour to blend in with this gorgeous cake and decorations. I'm loving the idea of a wooden crate with painted fish on them.

Wow, these cookies are so cute and colourful!
